Earthing for residential buildings

Whether in existing or new buildings, a functional earthing system is an elementary component of the electrotechnical system and, together with the air-termination system and down conductors, forms the lightning protection system. It provides personal safety and is a basic requirement for the safe operation of electrical systems in the building.

Precise planning and professional installation of the earthing system are crucial. Omissions or errors in the construction phase can often not be corrected retrospectively or only at great expense. So take advantage of our services and solutions for earthing and equipotential bonding

The right way to standard-compliant earthing for residential buildings

The ring earth electrode is laid in the ground outside the building foundation and forms a closed ring around the structure. For larger buildings, additional cross-connections must be inserted. A maximum mesh size of 20 x 20 metres must be observed.

If a lightning protection system in accordance with IEC 62305 is planned for the residential building, the mesh size of the ring earth electrode must be reduced to 10 x 10 metres. This reduced mesh size is recommended for every residential building to enable retrofitting of the external lightning protection.

In addition to the ring earth electrode, a combined equipotential bonding system (common bonding network) may be required for residential buildings. The "CBN" is a protective and functional bonding conductor laid in the floor slab, which must be electrically conductively connected to the reinforcement every 2 metres. The CBN is embedded as a closed ring along the outer edges in the concrete of a building foundation. The mesh width of the CBN is max. 20 x 20 m. Finally, this is connected to the ring earth electrode at regular intervals of max. 20 m.
