Protection for people and systems

We support system operators, electrical consultants or switchgear manufacturers in the selection, planning and execution of suitable protection concepts. The DEHNshort active arc fault protection system is already integrated into switchgear systems (IEC 61439-2) of well-known manufacturers according to IEC TS 63107 and is successfully used by many switchgear manufacturers and panel builders.

DEHNshort already protects people and property in many sectors, including hospitals, production processes, airports, shopping and logistics centres and many more.

All from a single source with personal support.

Our unique selling point: a complete service portfolio combined with end-to-end support – from conception to system integration to ongoing support. Efficient, scalable, future-proof.

Show us your challenges – we are ready for them.

How DEHNshort works

Standard-compliant personnel and system protection, even when the door of the switchgear is open – possible with DEHNshort.
We will explain to you how the active arc fault protection system effectively prevents damage to equipment and personnel.

01
Detect

In all feeders, protective current transformers positioned upstream of the feeding circuit breakers detect the overcurrent associated with the arc fault.

As a second detection variable, special light sensors detect the extremely bright light of the arc fault. Depending on system requirements, the light sensors are available as a point sensor or fibre-optic sensor.

02
Evaluate

Electronic detection devices link the sensor signals and activate the quenching devices of the relevant busbar as well as the shunt releases of all feeder circuit breakers in the event of both detection variables appearing.

DEHN
03
Quench

By activating the quenching devices, a bolted short-circuit is created in parallel to the arc fault in a very short time. Due to this low-resistance bypass, the voltage collapses and the arc fault is immediately quenched.

DEHN
04
Disconnect completely

In order to disconnect the busbar section subject to arc faults, the detection devices control the shunt releases of all feeder circuit breakers.

DEHN
05
Restoration of service

After rectifying the original fault, replacing the quenching devices and carrying out an insulation test, the system can be put back into operation within a very short time.

Retrofit? Should be possible.

The DEHNshort active arc fault protection system was primarily developed for use in new low-voltage switchgear installations. Subsequent installation in existing systems is possible under certain conditions. If you have a use case, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The DEHNshort arc fault detection system (without quenching devices) is also suitable for use in medium-voltage switchgear installations. Our specialists are also happy to answer your questions regarding this application.

Cooperation with Siemens for SIVACON S8

With the SIVACON S8, Siemens-certified Technology partners are offering a switchgear combination with design verification in accordance with IEC 61439 – including the DEHNshort active arc fault protection system.

02
What the switchgear combination can do:

It is designed for power distribution systems of up to 7,000 amperes and can be flexibly adapted to individual requirements thanks to the modular component concept. More than 400,000 switchgear panels have already been manufactured and installed by SIVACON Technology partners. Siemens is now expanding its range of products for certified switchgear manufacturers with the DEHNshort arc fault protection system for the SIVACON S8.

DEHNshort with VdS certificate

Limiting the effects of an arc fault to a minimum has always been the aim (or maxim) of the DEHNshort active arc fault protection system. In its publication VdS 2344:2020-07 "Procedures for the Testing, Recognition and Certification of Products and Systems of Fire Protection and Safety Technology", the VdS defines requirements for the performance of these systems, to which DEHNshort fully complies.

04
Certification until 2028

Currently, DEHNshort's certification has been extended for another 4 years and is valid until 30 May 2028.

Ask your property insurance company if it will reduce your insurance premium if you can prove that DEHNshort is used.
